Summer will be here before you know it and many are gearing to travel for vacation. If you live near a tourist destination like the city of Charleston, SC, you may have considered earning a few extra dollars by becoming an Airbnb host or hostess. If so, we want to share with you a few pointers that will help set you apart from other hosts and leave you with rave reviews from your guests. It’s all about the amenities.
Make Your Property Accessible
The check-in experience with Airbnb can vary, greatly, from host to host. If you peruse property reviews from some guests, you may notice the feedback some hosts receive when out-of-towners arrive and attempt to gain access to their accommodations. If you are unable to greet your guests upon their arrival, look into installing a smart lock at the main entrance of your property. Units like the one pictured below by Remotelock give you the ability to issue temporary access codes to guests and receive alerts on your smartphone when they come and go. This makes the check-in process more seamless for those staying with you and gives you added piece of mind.
Worry Free Wi-Fi
As with the smart lock, technology can help make a guest’s stay that much more peaceful. Having a reliable wi-fi set up is very important, too. First, make sure you set up a guest network for guests to protect your identity and personal information. (Click here to learn how.) Also, don’t make your visitors search all over for the login and password. We love this nifty wall art, pictured below, found on Etsy.com. You can have a talented crafter make personalized signage that’s easy for your guests to notice.
Offer Useful Goodies
We’ve all been there before. You gleefully arrive at your travel destination, head to your room, begin to unpack and then realize you’ve forgotten something. Or, perhaps you didn’t exactly adhere to TSA’s travel guidelines and had to toss that full size bottle of lotion into the garbage just before boarding your flight. What a pain! So, you could imagine this issue occurring often with your prospective guests. So, why not take a trip to your local Target and raid their health and beauty travel section for a few odds and ends for your guests. With some items priced as low as .99¢, you don’t have to invest a lot to help keep guests content.
Having a Repeat Guest? Learn What They Like
Some experienced Airbnb hosts live near great attractions, like skiing, hiking trails or state parks. This may bring you some repeat business. If you’ve built a rapport with a guest, why not learn what they prefer to have on hand at your place for the next visit. Hosting an avid cyclist? Try asking if he or she would like a small boxed lunch for the road. You can negotiate an additional fee for amenities like these making it a “Win, Win”!
Rep Your City
Sites like Pinterest are loaded with tons of great travel articles, infographics and guides for tourists. Why not print out and laminate a more colorful lists of local attractions for your guests. This also gives you an opportunity to brush up on your local facts and become an ambassador of sorts.
