While walking along Upper King Street here in Charleston, we happened to notice a new retailer in town (well, new to us). Encore Architectural Salvage Co. is a locally owned and operated shop that specializes in creating unique, one of a kind furniture, fixtures and flooring from reclaimed wood.
For years now, owner Bryant Dyess has expressed his creativity through the art of woodworking. Bryant has a knack for uncovering the beauty within discarded or forgotten lumber and transforming those pieces into individual works of art. Just take a look at the picture directly below. This is a great example of the painstaking process in which the lumber he uses goes through. Bryant and the team at his Orangeburg based mill, Reclaimed Milling Company, clean, refine, treat and protect each carefully selected piece of salvaged wood they use. Look at the contrast (somewhat of a before and after) below.
What’s also neat about Encore are the number of salvaged fixtures and hardware you can find there. Not to mention their lighting fixtures. You won’t find anything like them anyplace else.
If you ever find yourself in Charleston, step into their wonderful shop. You’ll be amazed by the quality of their products and you’ll be able to see, up close, just how much love and skill go into making each item. Are you out of town? Head to their website for details on how you can get your hands on many of the items you see online.
